Shared frames allow you to streamline your report/document devlopment process. If you have a similar layout repeatedly in many templates (e.g. header, footers, address frames etc.) then you can benefit from shared frames.

A shared frame is a frame, that is referenced from different places, that use the frame. The places where the frame is used is not a copy, but rather if one frame is changed, then all other uses will be affected as well.

Of course, if you do not want this behaviour, you can always make a copy of the named frame.

  1. The shared frames are managed in the styles tab.
  2. Here you find the shared frames. Use the context menu to insert, delete or copy the shared frames.
  3. Here you can define the shared frame's name. The Shared frame is creted by simply specifying a name here. After pressing return, the shared frame will appear in the styles tab.
  4. The shared frame appears just like any other frame on the edit page.

Shared frames are particularly powerful in combination with a resource library. Defining a shared frame in a library allows you to update the frame in all dependent projects, that use this library. E.g. when an address in a header/footer frame changes, you can update the address in all dependent templates at once.
